Super Sports Day
What an amazing day yesterday! Our first full sports day since the pandemic and we came back with an amazing bang! Mrs Taylor did a grand job of organising everything, as always, and all the helpers that made it run smoothly were brilliant. Mr Roundtree is a little croaky today after his commentating but I’m sure you’ll agree, it was well worth it. You will see a photo of Mrs Burke completing her final egg and spoon race as a member of staff but you never know, she might be guest of honour next year. Thank you to everyone who came along to watch!

Scooter Training
The children had great fun on their scooter training session and learnt how to stay safe near the roads.
PE
PE will be on Thursday instead of Friday for the next three weeks.
Living and learning: drug education
This half term, part of our Living and Learning focus includes drug education. We have arranged for visitors to come into school to help to deliver this key aspect of education.
We have been working with d:side for many years and they will be visiting school to deliver sessions to all classes based around drug education on Monday 11 July and Wednesday 13 July.
d:side is a comprehensive drug & alcohol education programme that encourages children to make positive & healthy life-choices whilst promoting a pro-active attitude to life. They focus on developing the children’s knowledge, skills & attitude, whilst equipping them with the appropriate life skills to successfully manage sensitive situations with peers & encourage a positive approach to life.
As part of this visit, Dave Hill, from d:side, will be available in the playground after school on Monday 11 July 3:05-3:30pm to answer any questions about this learning.
Skipping Festival!
Hello!
Year 4 had their skipping festival today at Leeds Trinity University and they did an absolutely amazing job! The teamwork and support they showed between one another was outstanding and they cheered each other on when some were feeling a bit nervous.
Overall, we won a mixture of bronze, silver and gold awards on the individual skills and we did an amazing job on the group skips too!
In between the skills, the children had the chance to skip, dance and sing along to the music.
A big well done to all of the Year 4s for trying their best and representing Moortown so well.
Scooter training
Year 2 have learnt lots about being safe on their scooters today.
Here are some of their top tips!
Wait if you are ahead of your adult and always know where your adults are. Don’t go too far away from them.
Push your scooter across the road while you hold your adult’s hand. Do not scoot across a road.
On a pavement, scoot along the edge that is not near the kerb.
When braking, use your push foot and keep your other foot on the scooter.
Don’t do a flip or jump if you are scooting fast.
Always wear a helmet to keep safe! Make sure it is secure on your head.
Living and Learning – relationships
For the past few weeks, we have been learning about relationships that are important to us, in particular our friends and family. We came up with lots of ways to be a good friend and what friends do to make us feel happy (a healthy relationship). We thought about the importance of family and we recognised that all families are different. We respect these differences. The ways people care for each other in these families remains the same. We spoke about special people in our lives and why they are special to us.
Finally, we reminded ourselves of the important NSPCC Underwear rule and enjoyed the Pantosaurus song too. We hope you can share this important learning again with your child at home.
We even created our own design of pants to remind us of the rule!
Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Year 1 had an incredible time at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Thursday! The children were all brilliantly behaved and learnt so much about the different animals we saw. They also showed great perseverance because we did a lot of walking! During a workshop some of us were brave enough to hold a huge African land snail and a wriggly cockroach! Well done to everyone!

Daddy is fun because he is really fun to play with.
Mummy is special because she looks after me if I am sad.
Aaron is special to me because if I get hurt, he helps me.
Erica is special to me as she makes me feel happy.
My grandma is special to me because she tells me the finniest stories at bedtime.
My whole family are special because they look after me.

Scooter training and sports day
Year 2 have an active start to the week this week.
Monday 4th July scooter training
If your child has a scooter and helmet, please bring these to school and leave them against the wall outside the classroom. If not, the trainers will provide this equipment.
Tuesday 5th July sports day
Sports day is at 1:30pm at Roundhegians Rugby Club (access for parents is from Chelwood Drive). Children should come in their PE kit ideally with a t-shirt of their team colour. If not, coloured bibs are available and can be used over your child’s white PE t-shirt. The children must have a water bottle in school and please bring a hat and apply sun screen depending on the weather on the day.
Year 2 will be also helping with the Key Stage 2 sports day in the morning.
Any questions, please come and ask.
