An Amazing Assembly
Last Thursday, Year 1 shared their learning in “a really fab assembly”. The children have been learning about the people in our community and showed this through drama and singing.
“What a wonderful show. Excellent theme for them to appreciate all the people that help us.”
As you can see from the quotes, our parents thought the children did really well. Thank you to all the parents for your support.
“What a fantastic performance – such confidence from all of the children.”
Class Assembly
A quick reminder to let you know that your child will be performing in their class assembly on Thursday 13 October at 2.40pm.
Hope to see you there!
We know how to stay safe in Year 1!
What a week we had last week! It was amazing how much we learnt in such a short time. We now know how to stay safe in many situations:
- around dogs
- dancing and keeping fit
- in case of fire
- when crossing the road
- when someone is hurt
Photograph, please!
Please could your child bring in a photograph of themselves as a baby. We will be learning about growing in our new topic so it would be lovely to have these on display. Photographs will be returned later in the Autumn term.
Thank you.
Miss Hewson, Mrs Weekes and Mrs Maver.
Welcome to Year 1
Wow! What a fantastic start to Year 1. The children have shown some great learning from the start and we are very excited to see how they are going to develop. Benjiman and Adwait have both shown how they understand their own feelings and those of others and Mia has already received a certificate for taking responsibility for her own learning.
Look out for all the exciting learning that is going to take place in Year 1!
Some things you need to know:
- children will need their PE kits on Tuesdays and Fridays
- book bags will be needed every day
- homework is sent out on Friday and is expected back on Wednesday
- spellings are sent out on Friday and need to be learnt for the following Friday
Look out for the newsletter which will be coming home soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please come in and see Mrs Maver or me, Mrs Weekes.
Looking forward to working with you and your children over the coming year.
Staying Safe themed week 26 September
We are looking for parents / carers who have a job related to safety.
If you can spare some time, during our Staying Safe themed week (26 September), to come in to talk to the children about how safety affects your work please speak to your child’s class teacher or leave a message at the office.
Thank you.
New SEAL statement and theme
As we start the new school year, our SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) theme focuses on New Beginnings and ‘I can make someone feel welcome‘ is the statement for this week.
New Beginnings
New beginnings allows children the opportunity to discuss and reflect on how they or others may feel in a new situation or setting. This SEAL theme offers children the opportunity to see themselves as valued individuals within a community, and to contribute to shaping a welcoming, safe and fair learning community for all.
The key areas of learning throughout this theme are empathy, self-awareness, social skills and motivation.
Through discrete SEAL lessons, circle times and across the curriculum, children will explore feelings of happiness and excitement, sadness, anxiety and fearfulness, while learning (and putting into practice) shared models for calming down and problem-solving.
New beginnings supports the development of a learning community in each classroom where all members feel that they belong. Class contracts, produced at the start of the year, allow children to contribute to how they feel they can achieve a safe and fair learning community.
Goodbye, Year 1
What an absolute fantastic year we have had! We have seen some amazing progress and the children have matured in so many ways.
We would like to say well done to Henry Crozier, our learner of the year! He has made so much progress in every area and his confidence has increased so much.
Linda, Simran, Allura, Brandon and Shahban made excellent progress in their writing and Yahya, Rayhaan, Harshitha and Jaskirat made brilliant progress in their reading. Our star in Maths was definitely Henry; he was a bit of a dark horse with his maths ability! Ethan, Oliver and Linda also made a lot of progress in Maths.
In other areas we saw a a lot of changes throughout the year; Oliver showed excellent attitude in our SEAL learning and Roshan became much more confident in her speaking and listening.
Well done to all the children for adapting to having two teachers; it can be tricky at times to get used to different styles of teaching but they all took it in their stride and enjoyed all learning.
Good luck in Year 2 – we’ll be still keeping an eye on you next door! Miss Hewson will have an excellent year with you, we’re sure. Have a good summer!
On Our Doorstep
A visit to Tropical World taught us about lots of different animals and their habitats. Even though a tarantula or snake are not local to Leeds, we are fortunate enough to have them on our doorstep!
We also spent a lot of time in Roundhay Park investigating the wonderful green space that is within walking distance of our school. Yes, you’re right! We walked all the way from school to the park (we did cheat on the way back and jumped on the bus!). We had a great day and finished it off with an ice cream treat.
Bike Week
Last week, during Bike Week, over 120 journeys were made to and from school by bike.
All the names of children who cycled to school have now been entered in the Leeds City Council prize draw to be held on Monday 04 July with tickets drawn by the Lord Mayor.
Good luck to all those children.
It’s great to see children continuing to use their bike after bike week has finished as a healthy way to travel to school.
