Year 4 Assembly
Hello everyone,
Just a quick word to let you know that your child will be performing in their class assembly tomorrow at 2.40pm. It would be great to see you all there. We will try to put a video on the website.
Hope to see you there!
Firemen at Moortown
Year 3 and 4 have been treated to a lesson in fire safety by two professional firemen. Unfortunately, they were unavailable (for some unknown reason) during school hours but they decided to do a video instead to remind the children about what to do in case of a fire.

The children then wrote down some instructions detailing what to do if there is a fire.
Well done!
Well done to pupils and parents in Y4 for your excellent attendance figures last year, in Y3.
The class had higher attendance figures and lower unauthorised absences than Leeds schools overall, and also, very importantly, better figures than our ‘statistical neighbours’ – these are schools that are most similar to us.
This excellent data certainly helped the school overall to meet our school target for the year – thank you.
Come dine with Year 4!
In tonight’s episode, Year 4 are guests at Allerton Grange and cook some ‘delectable’ food. They scored top marks from the head chef at Allerton Grange, who stated that the behaviour of the children was ‘awesome’. The food was ok, too.

Visit to Allerton Grange 26 September
As part of our Themed Week, Staying Safe, Year 4 will be visiting Allerton Grange on Monday 26 September between 9.30am and 12.00am.
During their visit, the children will be working in the food technology department, looking at food preparation, hygiene and use of equipment, making soup and bread to eat at the end of the session.
Your child won’t, therefore, need to bring lunch although you may like to send a snack for when they get back to school.
A voluntary donation of £1 would be appreciated to cover the cost of ingredients.
Connectivia!
How many connectives do you know? Do you know what type of connectives they are? Have a look at these pictures below of a competition we had today to see which group could answer these questions. Well done, Green Group!
Welcome to Year 4!
Hello parents, carers and pupils to the Year 4 blog!
First of all, I’d like to offer everyone a warm welcome. If you haven’t introduced yourself yet, please come up and see me soon.
Here you will find regular updates of all the fun and exciting things taking place in Year 4. We’ll have pictures, videos, quotes as well as examples of brilliant learning.
In addition, you will find a bunch of resources that I have come across which will further your child’s learning.
I’m really looking forward to the year ahead with what is quite clearly a lovely class of children and I’m certain that they will all enjoy and achieve along the way. Find out more about me in our staff interview.
Staying Safe themed week 26 September
We are looking for parents / carers who have a job related to safety.
If you can spare some time, during our Staying Safe themed week (26 September), to come in to talk to the children about how safety affects your work please speak to your child’s class teacher or leave a message at the office.
Thank you.
New SEAL statement and theme
As we start the new school year, our SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) theme focuses on New Beginnings and ‘I can make someone feel welcome‘ is the statement for this week.
New Beginnings
New beginnings allows children the opportunity to discuss and reflect on how they or others may feel in a new situation or setting. This SEAL theme offers children the opportunity to see themselves as valued individuals within a community, and to contribute to shaping a welcoming, safe and fair learning community for all.
The key areas of learning throughout this theme are empathy, self-awareness, social skills and motivation.
Through discrete SEAL lessons, circle times and across the curriculum, children will explore feelings of happiness and excitement, sadness, anxiety and fearfulness, while learning (and putting into practice) shared models for calming down and problem-solving.
New beginnings supports the development of a learning community in each classroom where all members feel that they belong. Class contracts, produced at the start of the year, allow children to contribute to how they feel they can achieve a safe and fair learning community.
Goodbye, Year 4
I’d like to congratulate Year Four on a great year – the children have worked extremely hard. Throughout the year, I have seen a noticeable improvement in many of the children’s behaviour and attitude to learning. Some of the children have been exceptional from start to finish too which has paid off in their learning.
I’d like to say an extra well done in literacy to Sami and Lili who have both made double the amount of expected progress in a year! In maths, Lili, Rishitha, Faizaan, Meva, and Nevan have made great progress. A big well done to Grace, Henry, Max and Nevan who have also made brilliant progress in reading.
Some of my highlights of the year include:
- Swimming (especially the fun session!)
- The production at Easter
- The effort that the children put into both their class assemblies
- Working at the North East City Learning Centre to produce news reports
- Guided reading sessions (excellent discussions and thought-provoking questions from the children)
- Literacy lessons and the children’s enthusiasm to improve – particularly in The Labyrinth story writing unit.
- Mental maths – improved speed!
- The quality of artwork produced – I see some future artists!
Thank you to Mrs Bald, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Freeman for the invaluable support that they have provided this year also.
I wish all of the children a fun and successful year with Mr Owen in Year Five!
