09 October 2015
The homework this week is talk time and is due in on Wednesday 14 October.
Is it better to holiday in your own country or a foreign country?
This homework poses a moral question about the implications of our holiday choices. Consider the environmental impact, the economic impact and the cultural experience of holidays both at home and abroad.
02 October 2015
The homework this week is creative and is due in on Wednesday 07 October.
I can show my favourite holiday destination.
What does your ideal holiday destination look like? Is it a real place or a fantasy land?
Consider the geographical features of your holiday paradise. Do you like relaxing holidays which are close to the coast? Do you like to be in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains, lakes and rivers? Are you a city lover who likes to keep busy? Do you prefer active holidays where you spend your days skiing or biking?
Times Tables
Next Friday will be our first times tables test of the year. The focus is the 10 times table. We will be practising in class next week but children should spend time practising at home as well. We’ll be counting in tens with lots of objects to get them used to what the numbers actually mean. It would be great if you could do this as well. As well as this, the look, cover, write, check strategy is also a tried and tested way to learn the facts.
One thing to be aware of when you’re practising with your children is that the test won’t list the times tables in order. For example, 1×10, 2×10, 3×10, 4×10, etc. Instead, the facts will be read in any order: 3×10, 7×10, 9×10, 3×10, etc. Please bear this in mind when you’re practising at home.
A couple of other points to bear in mind:
- Don’t neglect 0x10 and 1×10
- The National Curriculum sets out the expectation that children should learn up to x12, so include 11×10 and 12×10
Please ask if you have any questions.
25 September 2015
The homework this week is talk time and is due in on Wednesday 30 September.
I can talk to my family (especially older family members) about what holidays were like when they were my age.
Here are some questions you could ask:
- What holidays did you go on when you were my age?
- How did you get to your holiday destination?
- What did you do when you were on holiday?
- What did you pack?
- Was the food that you ate different on holidays?
- What things are different and what things are the same?
- Do you have any evidence of the holidays that you went on when you were my age? This could be photographs, postcards, letters.
18 September 2015
The homework this week is creative and is due in on Wednesday 23 September.
What is a holiday?
I’ve asked children this week to creatively show what a holiday is. This could be an example of a holiday you have been on, want to go on or a more general reflection about holidays.
11 September 2015
The homework this week is talk time and is due in on Wednesday 16 September.
I can talk about what I am going to do to make sure I have a successful year.
For more information about homework and the types of homework, please read the first page of your child’s homework book. If you have any questions, please ask.
10 July 2015
This week’s whole school homework involves completing the pupil health questionnaire sent home with your child.
I can share my views about health.
This annual questionnaire has been compiled in consultation with our school council and helps us to find out pupil views on some of our key health issues at school. Please support your child to complete the health questionnaire by discussing these issues. The questionnaire should be returned to your class teacher by Wednesday 15 July.
26 June 2015
This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due on Thursday 02 June 2015.
I can work with fractions and time (Mathletics assigned tasks).
Log on to Mathletics and you will see that you have been assigned three tasks and a test on fractions and time. See if you can complete these on your own using the ? button to help if you get stuck. If your child has any problems logging on to Mathletics, let me know and I can give him/her time to complete this activity in school.
You don’t need to write anything in books for this. I will make a note as to whether the activity has been completed or not when homework books are handed in.
19 June 2015
This week’s homework is creative and is due on Wednesday 24 June 2015.
I can show what grows around me.
Get out and about, either into your garden or walking through the streets and parks, to see what plants you can see.
- Are there flowers, trees, fruit or vegetables growing in the world around you?
- Which can you name and which can you not?
- Are there any plants you see over and over again?
Show us in any way you like what grows around you.
Maybe you want to…
- Draw pictures.
- Take photographs.
- Create an information booklet.
- Film walking around and noticing plants around you.
- Describe the plants you find.
- Make a quiz to see if others can name what you see.
12 June 2015
This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due on Wednesday 17th June 2015.
I can write an algorithm.
Can you used the key words to write an algorithm (set of instructions) to get from start to finish, passing through all of the stages of plant growth in the correct order? Use a counter, toy car or Playmobile figure to help you by moving them through the grid, thinking about the instructions they would need to be successful.
