26 November 2010
This week’s homework is creative. It is due in on Wednesday 01 December 2010.
‘I can find openings in stories.’
This links to our story-writing unit in literacy. The children need to find different opening lines (the first line) in stories and make a note of them. They could even sort them into dialogue (speech), action or description (think of ‘DAD‘. As it is a creative homework they may present their homework how they wish.

Class Assembly
Our first Class Assembly was on Thursday 25 November.
Well done children! You performed with confidence and enthusiasm and gave the rest of the pupils a hugely interesting show jam-packed with examples of your great learning about Vile Victorians.
You should be very proud of yourselves!
Well done again.
Mrs Hazell.

Your homework this week is Talk Time.
I can talk about our Assembly on Victorians.
Discuss and share ideas and thoughts about our assembly including your role as well as the roles of other people. Discuss what you enjoyed and what you hope people learnt from our assembly.
…or…
I can keep calm or help others to calm down.
Discuss and share the things we have talked about in school about keeping calm. Share strategies and try and find the best methods for keeping calm that you and your parents use.
Make notes in your homework book to show the things you discussed.
Homework is due on Wednesday 01 December.
Moortown Puppeteers
As well as being fantastic playground designers, Year 1 have proved that they are also very creative when it comes to puppets. All they were given was a wooden spoon and some material and they came up with some really different ideas. We were joined by wizards, a werewolf, Harry Potter and many more characters. As you may have noticed, these additions have been brought home as the children were so proud of them. We hope that you continue to enjoy many puppet shows!!

SEAL statement 22 November
‘I can keep calm or help others to calm down’ is the new SEAL statement for this week.
In class children will be learning about a variety of techniques to use if they need to calm down.
Some of these techniques include:
- taking deep breaths
- walking away from the situation
- tell someone how you feel
- have a drink of water
Have a look at the calming down keyrings in each classroom for more ideas.
