Where do you come from?
I grew up in Edinburgh, but have not lived there for over 20 years. Since then, I’ve lived in Durham, London and Hertfordshire, before finally settling in Leeds.
What is your favourite subject?
I really enjoy science because I am naturally curious and am always asking “why?” and “how?”! Science can help to answer these questions and help us to understand more about the world around us. I studied geology (the science of the earth and its processes) at university. I also love PE.
What is your favourite food?
I adore pizza! It must be something to do with my distant Italian heritage.
What is your favourite animal?
My favourite animals have to be dogs. I love their loyalty and that they are always pleased to see you, no matter what. They also give you a really good reason to get out and have a walk in the fresh air. Years ago, I used to keep chickens – they also make fantastic pets and have the added bonus of providing eggs!
What is your favourite sport?
I played hockey for many years, most recently for Leeds Hockey Club. I love the combination of the exercise, the tactics, travelling to visit other clubs, and being part of a close-knit team. I also enjoy badminton, swimming, skiing and snowboarding.
Why did you want to become a teacher / teaching assistant?
After a few years spent as a Governor at another local school, I became more aware of how important schools are in shaping children’s futures and helping them to become the best they can be. So I decided to leave my job as an environmental consultant and to retrain as a Teaching Assistant. And I love it!
